From Tobe Hooper, the director of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, 1985’s Lifeforce is a fever dream of a film and a unique cinematic achievement. Pilloried in its initial release, it has since come to be regarded as among Hooper’s best, a classic of the science fiction and horror genres, and a shot across the bow to teenage boys everywhere.

In addition to Naked Vampires From Outer Space, Stan Giesea is also the author of two other books about the films of Tobe Hooper, Smoldering Embers: On the set of Tobe Hooper’s Spontaneous Combustion (2021, Miniver Press) and Red Scare: The Making of Tobe Hooper’s I’m Dangerous Tonight (2022, Murietta Press).

Also featured in this volume are contributions by artist and film scholar Stephen R. Bissette (Swamp Thing, Cryptid Cinema) and Thomas Kent Miller, author of Mars in the Movies: A History (2016, McFarland).
